This Editorial Policy describes how we create, review, and maintain the orthodontic and dental content published on this website. Our goal is straightforward: every article, guide, and FAQ we publish should be accurate, current, and genuinely useful to you.

This policy applies to all written content on this site, including treatment overviews, educational articles, patient guides, and frequently asked questions.

Our Editorial Mission

We publish content to help patients and families understand orthodontic treatment — not to replace the care of a qualified dental professional. Our commitment is to present information that is clinically sound, written in plain language, and honest about what orthodontic treatment can and cannot do.

We do not publish content designed to alarm, mislead, or make promises that individual patient outcomes cannot support.

Who Writes and Reviews Our Content

All clinical content on this site is written, reviewed, or directly supervised by Dr. Laurence Schimmel, DDS, our practicing orthodontist. Dr. Schimmel holds an active dental license issued by the New York State Department of Education and has provided orthodontic care in the Bronx community for many years.

Where content is drafted with the assistance of a writer or our communications team, it is reviewed and approved by Dr. Schimmel before publication. 

Our Sources

We base our content on peer-reviewed research, clinical practice guidelines, and guidance from established dental and medical institutions. When we reference a specific study, statistic, or external resource, we link to or cite the original source.

Our preferred sources include:

• Peer-reviewed journals such as the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics
• Clinical guidelines from the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) and the American Dental Association (ADA)
• Public health guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR)

Corrections

We take accuracy seriously. If a factual error is brought to our attention — by a patient, a colleague, or any member of the public — we investigate promptly and correct it if confirmed.

Corrections are noted on the affected page with a brief explanation of what changed and the date of the correction. For significant clinical errors, the entire article is re-reviewed before republication.
